Music at Seal Church

Music at Seal

Music matters to us at Seal. We enjoy a wide range of musical styles, so you will find everything from traditional anthems, sung by our robed choir, to a music group with a wide variety of musical instruments providing more contemporary music at some services.
Some services use recorded music to listen to, and at some evening services we sing hymns to recorded accompaniments.
Philip Le Bas is our choir director, and Kevin Bright acts as an independent liaison if there are any concerns or queries about the musical life of the church (as Philip is married to the vicar!)

Here are some recordings from our Carol Service 2018
O Little Town of Bethlehem (with children's choir)
Zion Hears the Watchmen's Voices
Jesus Christ the Apple Tree
Nativity Carol
Shepherds Cradle Song
O Holy Night

Our choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings in term time.

The Children's Choir meets at 5 pm  for half an hour of singing together, led by Anne, the Vicar. We sing a mixture of silly songs just for fun and occasionally try to sing in Church. Children's choir members usually open the Christmas Carol, for example, with the first verse of Once in Royal David's City. We also try to learn some of the basics of vocal technique and reading music. Sessions are aimed at Primary school age children, and parents are welcome to stay if they like. Children don't have to  come on Sundays, but obviously it is more rewarding for them if they can be part of the worship as well as coming on Wednesdays. Older children are also welcome to join in with the Senior Choir.

The Senior Choir meets from 7.15 to 8.15. As well as leading worship we sing anthems during Communion and at weddings and have an extensive repertoire of music, both ancient and modern. Singers - all voices - are welcome. It helps to be able to read music, but a willingness to have a go is the main qualification! We don't have auditions for the choir - come along and learn as you go!

The Music Group is made up of any reasonably competent instrumentalists who would like to join in and plays usually on the 2nd Sunday of the month during our All Age Worship. Singers who would like to give a lead to the congregation with the Music Group are welcome. There is a short rehearsal before the service on the 2nd Sunday.

CURRENT HYMN ROTA
(Occasionally changes are made at the last minute, but this is the plan!)
