Time stands still...
The good news is that the church clock is exactly right twice a day at
the moment. The bad news is that it isn't right any of the rest of the
time. It has stopped (at around 10.10, in case you are interested), and
initial investigation - to wit, my lovely husband going up the tower to
poke around in its innards - reveals that it has got itself in a
thorough tangle. I don't quite understand it, but it is something to do
with a bit of the mechanism getting jammed up with something
like a bike chain which is a vital component. As you can see, clock
maintenance is not a speciality of mine... We will be getting in some
experts to see what can be done with it, but it seems likely that it
will be out of action for a while, so those within earshot of its chimes
will have to find some other way of telling the time as they lie awake
in the darkness!
