Remembrance Sunday

Often on Remembrance Sunday our minds are focussed on wars in the past, but this year we have all watched the news from Ukraine, night after night. In truth, war has always been a constant presence in our world, but rolling 24/7 news makes that more obvious to us now than it might have been to our ancestors. In every generation, people have have faced times of trouble and sorrow, and felt its effects - fear, disorientation, powerlessness. Today's sermon explores what we might learn from the wisdom of those who have gone before us in dealing with our own feelings as we contemplate the current crises that face us.

ALL AGE IDEAS

Remembrance Sunday can be a sad day for some people. Thinking about people fighting and hurting each other can make us feel frightened.
  • Have you seen news reports of people fighting? How does it make you feel when you see these pictures? Talk to the grown-ups who look after you about what you feel.
  • You might like to watch the video below, which reminds us that, though scary things happen sometimes, good things happen too, and life returns. The rabbit in the video is helped when he is scared by being with friends. As well as our families and friends, the Bible says that God is always with us in difficult times. We can tell God how we are feeling too.

OPEN MORNING AT FRIDAY GROUP NOVEMBER 25th.
Are you concerned about your energy bills this winter?  Citizens Advice Bureau are going to visit Friday Group on Friday 25th November, and deliver a Big Energy Saving Project workshop to explore ways of keeping our costs as low as possible.
This is then being followed by an origami workshop, delivered by our own Nicole from NimiÅ› in the High Street. This will give us the opportunity to make some origami Christmas decorations, so another money saving project and possibly a chance to learn a new skill!
Everybody is welcome to this open morning, and we look forward to meeting you at the Church Hall for coffee, tea, refreshments and learning. What more could we ask for?
The session will start earlier on Friday 25th, so watch this space for more information.

UPDATE ON CHRISTMAS LIGHTING - HELP NEEDED PLEASE!

Know Your Neighbours have been able to make plans  regarding the street lighting for this Christmas. Resoundingly, the results were in favour of having icicle lights in the High Street, with reduced daily lighting (4pm-7pm)  and reduced timespan from lighting up to turning off.(Dec 11th to January 5th)
As we are having the lighting in the High Street for a shorter period this year, we are hoping to get a band of merry street lighters (helping with the hanging of the lights) on the mornings of the weekend December 3rd and 4th. Please could you let Marion Gilchrist (marionjgilchrist@gmail.com) know over this weekend, if you could help on either of those mornings, so that we can see whether this would work. We will need at least 5 ladder climbers, 5 on the ground to unravel and 5 at bottom of ladders. This is always a good fun activity, but we do need to see who can commit now please.

KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS FAMILY PARTY IN EARLY JANUARY

We will also need help to organise this please, so again, please let Marion know if you can offer your assistance in any way.
