Day 2: Worshipping Angels
Read: Luke 15.8-10
Jesus parables of the lost sheep (Luke 15.1-7), lost coin
and prodigal son (15. 11-32), all end with parties. In this story and the
previous one, the earthly party is mirrored by a party in heaven. “There is joy in the presence of the angels
of God over one sinner who repents” says Jesus.
The message is that to accept our need of God’s help and
forgiveness is a joyful thing, not a sorrowful one. We don’t need to be
perfect, we just need to acknowledge that we aren’t. God will do the rest; it
is he who finds and rescues us, and there is rejoicing in heaven when we allow
ourselves to be found and rescued.
·
Do you
find it easy to accept help and acknowledge that you can’t manage life by
yourself? Why is that?
·
Spend some
time imagining the scene in verse 10. Imagine what the joy of angels might look
like. Imagine yourself in their midst, the cause of their rejoicing. What are
they saying to you?
