Merode Altarpiece Annunciation: by Robert Campin 1375-1444
The final annunciation in our series shows Mary at home, in a typical Medieval Netherlandish home, reading as the angel appears. She hasn’t yet looked up and seen him. A lily stands on the table, a flower associated with Mary, symbolising her virginity.
