Virgin Eleusa c. 1425–50 Angelos Akotantos
Icons of this type, showing Mary cheek to cheek with her child are called Virgin Eleusa, or the Virgin of tenderness. It emphasizes the love between Jesus and Mary, love which is shared with the world.
